Las Vegas (again)

Last weekend Cassidy had fall break so we headed to Las Veas with Aunt LaWayne to spend more time with this little guy.  We figured with fewer people around we would get to hold and play with him a little more than we did last time we saw him.  

We arrived on Friday and got to go to lunch with my dad before he headed back to Elko.  Then we just hung out at Jamie's house for the rest of the day.  Saturday morning Cass and I went to the Las Vegas LDS temple.  We also watched BYU destroy the ISU in football, watched the world series, and hung out with my friend Shawna who I forgot to take a picture with.

This trip also included some home improvement projects as well.  BJ wanted some curtains in his extra room hemmed so I brought my sewing machine and we had a fun time taking care of this decorating project.  BJ manned the iron, I manned the sewing machine, and Cass assumed the role of supervisor.

Then at Jamie's house I helped Jamie make bread.  Here is her nervous in the process face.  Apparently my mom and I make bread very differently.  Poor Jamie is very confused now.

 

Here she is with the finished product.  Too bad we found out days later it wasn't cooked all the way through, but she looks really proud in this picture so it had to go on.

Also while we were there BJ helped LaWayne buy a laptop.  She has been looking and wanting one for months now so it was a pretty exciting day when she finally purchased one.  Here are the IT boys helping her get things set up.

 

And finally there was just a lot of time with little Jonathan.  Jamie is making sure I have a lot of practice for Alden in January so I go to do this a few times.

 It was worth it when he would snuggle up and go to sleep while you were holding him.

 Look at that adorable face!  How can you not love him.

Road Tripping

I hadColumbus Day off work and Cass doesn't have class on Monday's so we had an entire day to hang out.  What do you think we did with this extra day together?  We went to Price, UT!  Price is a little more than an hour away from American Fork and Cassidy's family were some of the early settlers of the area so we went to see the Peterson Family Cemetery. This was my first time there and I was actually pretty impressed with the little cemetery even if we did have to park in a lumber store parking lot walk along the fence and then sneak through a gate to get to this little piece of history :)

  

 This is a view from one end.  It looks kind of sad in this picture, but the little cemetery is actually pretty well maintained.  We took pictures of all of the headstones and then talked with Cassidy's parents the other night to learn about each person and how they are related to us.  It has been pretty fun to learn about our ancestors.

This headstone is Cassidy's great great grandparents.  His dad is named after this grandpa.

After the cemetery we wanted to do something else to make the drive worth while.  Price is a pretty small town, but there is a dinosaur museum and that is where we ended up.  Half of the museum is dinosaurs and the other half is native cultures.  Here is Cass in his dream home :)

 I loved the giant mammoth mostly for the skeleton on the left that is trying to kill it with spears.  For some reason I still laugh every time I look at it.

 In the dinosaur side they had places you could dig for your own bones.  I think I discovered something very rare in this sandbox :)

 Cass enjoyed the bigger sandbox more.  

 That was Monday and Friday we headed out on another quick trip to Wendover, NV and eventually on to Elko.  We stopped in Wendover to go to the Trace Adkins concert.  We bought tickets months ago and were so excited that if finally came.  The 1000 seat concert hall is very intimate and we learned that Trace Adkins is a really funny guy.  He interacted with the audience a ton and had a lot of funny stories that he told as he made fun of some of the audience members.

Do I look pregnant yet, Lori?  After the concert it was a shorter drive to Elko than back to our house so we went to spend the weekend with my parents.  Sorry no pictures.  We didn't do anything too exciting just relaxed watching baseball and football and talking about everything we need to do financially to get ready to be parents.  Thanks mom and dad for another great weekend!

Rise and Shout!

The Cougars are out!

 

On Saturday night we went with LaWayne to the BYU football game against San Jose State University. LaWayne and I love BYU football so we make it a point to go to at least one game a year.  Cass is starting to love BYU football after going through two seasons with us :)  This year we got excellent seats (row 1) and it just happened to be homecoming too so it was even more exciting.   

We discovered last year that you can take a bus from the mall to the game if you eat at one of the restaurants in the mall during the week.  This is great because then we don't have to worry about traffic or parking when we get there.  Here is LaWayne on the bus ready for an exciting night :)

 

Our seats were right in front of the Cougarettes dance team. 

And while we were watching the Cougarettes warm up we got a huge surprise.  Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the first presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints came walking down the sideline to say hi to the dance team.  He said a prayer with them, shook some hands (unfortunately not ours), and watched the action for a little bit. 

Because it was homecoming they let tons of balloons go as the team came running out of the tunnel the band made.  And below is a picture of Cosmo the Cougar.  He hung out by us for a little while too. I am telling you the first row is the place to be for sporting events.

The final score BYU 29- San Jose 16.  We love going to sporting events when our team actually wins :)

A Family Affair

 

This last weekend was general conference for the LDS church which meant no one had to go to church to fulfill church callings and instead were free to travel.  Both of my parents had the weekend off work and were willing to take time out to come to Utah and help prepare for the arrival of our little boy by painting his room.  Since my parents were coming we also decided it would be a great idea to have BJ, Rudy, Jamie, and Jonathan come up so that we could all meet the new addition to the Norton family. The plan turned out perfect and Cass and I were lucky enough to spend the whole weekend with my family.  Up above is my dad meeting his grandson for the very first time in the hotel parking lot.  Aren't they cute :)

Below are pictures of the manual labor that was required for people who came to visit. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but the entire room was a terrible mauve pink color.  I mean the entire room, walls ceiling, base boards and trim, everything was pink.  It is now a tan brown with white trim.  Much more nuteral and appropriate for a little boy we think.

 

This is all I was allowed to do before I was ushered out of the room and scolded for exposing myself and the baby to paint fumes.

While paint was drying we had a picnic on the deck.  Also on Sunday in between session we enjoyed some exciting rounds of ladder golf, but those pictures didn't up load and I am frustrated with blogger right now so I will not be trying it again, but believe me the games were pretty intense. We were so lucky to have amazing weather for the first weekend of October.

Rudy's sister and her husband live in Provo so they were also able to spend a lot of the weekend at our house getting to meet their new nephew.  Here is is Rudy's sister Mara with Jonathan.  On Sunday afternoon we had 10 adults and a baby in our two bedroom apartment to watch conference.  It is a good thing we are all family and have to like each other because it was pretty tight quarters.
