Small Town Idaho

Last summer on the way to our family reunion we stopped in Glenns Ferry, ID to see where my mom's older siblings grew up. LaWayne has wanted to go back and do a walking tour since then so a couple of weeks ago we took her. We left here on a Thursday night and drove to Joe's house. Friday we all jumped in the mini van and took off. Thursday night though Joe and Cass had some fun out back in the small range Joe had just completed. They modified one of Joe's pistols so of course some practice shots were in order.

The plan was to drive from Rockland to Glenns Ferry, but we got lucky and the freeway was closed from an accident that morning and we were detoured through Paul. This is where my mom grew up so we drove by the drive thru she worked in and this is the house she grew up in. According to LaWayne my grandmother was a much better grounds keeper and the house looked a lot better back then.
The whole trip was pretty leisurely. We didn't have any specific time to be anywhere so we stopped and saw whatever we wanted along the way. So in Twin Falls we sopped and checked out the  Perrine Bridge. Evil Knievel attempted to jump the gorge, here but quickly pulled the shoot after he left the ramp.

Joe told us he used to do pull ups under the bridge when he was younger so all of the boys had to try it out. I don't know why the picture of Joe didn't make on here, but he can still do it.

Next stop Glenns Ferry. Current population about 1300. They have these cute bridges all over town.
We walked by the old movie theater which now does live plays and dinner. The lady who owns the place was just going inside to get ready for that nights show and invited us in to look around. We heard all kinds of stories about sitting in the balcony and running to the hotel next door to call home when the movie was over. It was really fun to watch LaWayne and Joe remember so many happy things from when they were younger.

Here is a view down one of the back streets as we headed to the canal that they would go under on their way to and from school. The rest of the town is much cuter.
The old elementary school. We learned where each grade was held and how exciting it was to walk across the street to the high school.
And here is the house LaWayne and Joe grew up in.
Glenns Ferry also has one of the only phones booths still in existence. The phone doesn't work, but we had to get a picture with Alden because he may never see one in person again.
We saw a lot of other things in Glenns Ferry and then hit the old cafe for lunch before heading to Boise to stay for the night. We went to the temple to walk around that evening and just enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Saturday morning we got up and went out to the Boise cemetery and placed flowers on my Great Grandparents grave (Joseph Lewis Jones and Gracie Claire)

Then it was off to visit some of my great aunts. Only one was home, but she was so excited to see us. Here is Joe and LaWayne with their aunt Mary Lou Jones.
After a bite of lunch it was back to Rockland. Again we took our time and took some back roads. Joe showed us the Malad River and Gorge.

We drove through an area called 1000 springs. There are waterfalls just coming out of the green mountainside all over the place. It was beautiful.
Then we stopped at Miracle Hot Springs to see the Alligators that live there. Unfortunately they didn't want to be seen very well and just hung out in the water, but we had fun anyway.

We climbed a tree instead.

Sunday morning we came back to Utah. We passed this nest with an eagle and I believe a couple of hawks in it and just thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Love living so close to so many family members.
