Girls Camp

This year I got put in to Young Women's as the Mia Maid advisor.  One of the perks of this church calling is going to Girls Camp.  We took a week at the end of June and went to Kodachrome Basin in Utah.  I am grateful Cass was willing to stay with the kids all by himself for 5 days so I could go because it was such a good time.  Waring there are a lot of pictures, but I could have posted a lot more so don't complain too much.

We stopped at Cove Fort on the way down and took a tour. This is a neat place that I have passed so many times, but have never stopped at.  Our tour guide was awesome! Along with sharing uplifting stories she talked us in to licking the salt lick.  It was disgusting in case you are wondering.

And we spent a lot of time in the car to get there and back as well as driving to hikes and other activities.  Here is a group shot of the girls in my car.  We did a great job at entertaining ourselves if you couldn't tell.

The first night we got there we did a nature walk and then a small hike in the camp ground called Angel's Palace as soon as dinner was over. Here is the entire group of girls at Angel's Palace.

 The next day we spent the morning hiking/walking in a slot canyon.  There was water the entire way and it was really pretty and nice to be shaded from the sun for most of it because it gets rather warm in southern Utah in early June.

 Just a quick shot to show a little bit of what the camp site looked like and give a second to talk about out down time.  We camped in tents with no power except in the community bathrooms that were nearby.  It was super hot and these little gnats were everywhere. Don't worry bug spray didn't bother them one bit.  When we weren't hiking we spent time at camp playing hot dice, making bracelets, and coloring.

 On day 3 we took a 6 mile hike to Calf Creek Falls.  The falls were beautiful, but I am not going to lie the hike was a challenge at times and everyone was worn out by the time we made it back to camp. Here is a view of some of our group just so you can see the scenery.

 There were rocks to the side you could slide down into the water.  I didn't do this as the water was really, really, cold.  And I didn't want to be wet and picking up mud on the way back. A lot of the girls and a couple of leaders did though and they made it look really fun. 

 Some "graffiti" to let everyone know we had been there. Our theme was peculiar.

 And here is why the hike was a challenge.  We walked through sand most of the way and it gets in your shoes and it was horrible.  We stopped several time to dump sand out of our shoes so we could keep walking.

 Day 4 was a couple of short hikes in the campground, solo time, a talent show, and then testimony meeting before heading home the next morning.  This is a picture of Shakespeare's Arche.

Seriously loved this trip and can't wait to go again next year.  There is nothing quite like being in the great outdoors to help a group of people create a closer bond than they had before they left.
