Three's Company

We welcomed Alden Ray Peterson in to the world on Friday January 27, 2012 at 7:26 pm.  He weighed in at 8lbs 4 oz and 20 inches long.  And like all new moms here is where I will share all of the details of his birth.  Ok maybe not all, but Alden has already shown that he is in charge of how things are going to happen so his delivery definitely did not go as planned.
Alden was due on January 20, so we went to the hospital a week later to get induced because he was not going to come on his own (I had not progressed any in about 3 week).  We arrived at 6 am and they broke my water at about 7.  After oxygen off and on for about the next 12 hours I was pretty much ready to go when nurses came rushing in yelling to get the doctor on the phone immediately and get as many hands in the room as possible.  I was flipped on to my side and told to push.  My right leg was so numb from the epidural I couldn't tell if I was pushing or not.  I thought I wasn't doing well because I was immediately flipped to the other side and tried pushing again.  Then the next thing I know they are yanking my bed away from the wall and talking about a c-section.  There were so many people running around they actually broke the bed because we were in such a hurry to get out of the room they forgot to unplug it.  As we were leaving and Cass was instructed to stay put someone said something about Alden's heart rate being in the 60s and that it had been there for around 4 minutes they had to get the baby out fast.  There was also talk about if I couldn't get numb in time that I would have to be knocked completely out.
I didn't have to be knocked out, but we were the most exciting thing happening in labor and delivery on Friday night.  There was probably about 15-20 people in the operating room waiting on us.  And it was less than 20 minutes from when the first nurses rushed in my room until Alden was out and being cleaned up.  Cass was great at supporting me through all of this and thinking that it was cool to watch a baby get cut out of my belly.  We also had incredibly awesome doctors and nurses for the whole weekend.  Alden had some fluid in his lungs when he was delivered, but nurses were able to get that out without too much trouble so we are blessed with a beautiful healthy perfect baby boy.  Sorry this is so long, but here are some pictures to make the reading worth while :)
This is the first time I got to see our son.  It was so awkward and I could only touch the his cheek with the tip of my fingers when the blood pressure cuff was not tightening up.  This is our first family  picture.  Ignore the bad resolution it was taken with a camera phone because left the room so fast the camera was not thought of until after we had a baby.
Just some cute pictures.  Alden has such a sweet personality he doesn't fuss much, but definitely knows what he wants.  When he is asleep don't try to wake him up because it won't work :)

When I tell you don't try to wake him up this is why.  He did not want to wake up to eat, but if you don't eat every so often in the hospital they will give the baby an IV.  He was too tired to breast feed so I had to torture him to suck on a bottle.
 A much better family picture.

Now the pictures are going backward, but I am too lazy to put them in order so use your imagination.  This is when we first got to the hospital.  I was reading over some of the paper work they gave us.  I am still smiling because I had no idea what laid in store for us in the coming hours :)
This is right after Alden was born getting checked out by the nurse.
This is the first time I got to hold Alden after the c-section.  I still couldn't see him very well, but was so excited to finally hold him.
Cass getting a good look at him after the nurse cleaned him up.  I think he likes what he sees.
And one more picture to show what a great husband Cass is.  He slept on this roll away bed at the end of my bed for three nights while we were in the hospital.  He was woken up by me feeding Alden and a sore back every night, but stayed with me through the whole experience.  I love him so much for it.

And the final picture is getting dressed to come home.  Isn't he so cute!

Still Pregnant

So this is probably the worst picture ever, but this is me on January 20 the day Alden was supposed to make his appearance into the world.  Obviously he did not.  Here is a quick update on what we has  been happening in the Peterson house during January.  We have not taken any pictures because the camera has been packed away in the hospital bag.  This happened because at our appointment on January 6 the doctor told us he thought we would have a baby within 48 hours and if not then definitely within the week.  So we came home packed a bag got out the car seat and had everything sitting by the front door for the moment we would head to the hospital.  Well that week came and went and at the next doctor appointment they said nothing had changed.  We left a little disappointed, but it was still a week before our due date so not too big of a deal.  Again nothing happened during that next week.  When we went on January 19 the doctor again said nothing had changed and he will see us at the hospital when I am induced.  So that is where we are now just waiting for this Friday to have a baby.

We have however been trying to do a lot of things that will be difficult in the next few weeks to come.  We have been to the $3 theatre a couple of times to get our fill in of movies.  We have been miniature golfing, bowling, and had friends over for dinner and games a few times.  Too bad all of these fun things didn't entice Alden to come join us, but you can be sure that our next post wil consist of a Peterson family of 3.  Keep your fingers crossed that labor and delivery go smoothly :)

Suit Up!

If you are a fan/avid reader of our blog you probably remember that I got a sewing machine for my birthday in July.  Well since then I have had a blast making things for our new little addition.  The latest creation was a white suit for his church blessing.  A huge thanks goes to my aunt LaWayne for all of her help over Christmas.  We started with a suit from Jamie's baby Jonathan and made our pattern before cutting and sewing began.  I was a little busy trying sewing so there are virtually no pictures.  Here is ironing the seems.

And here is the finished product.  A vest, pants, and tiny bow tie.  I am so excited about how they turned out and the best part is the fabric and buttons were 50% off so the entire thing cost about $4.  Don't you think Alden is going to look adorable in this!
And as a blog bonus here is how we spent New Year's Eve.  Our traditional new puzzle and a bottle of sparkling cider :)  This was after an afternoon in Salt Lake attending the Savior of the World production put on by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to remind us of the birth and resurrection of our Savior and the reason why we have the holiday season.

Christmas 2011

We spent Christmas this year in Elko.  We traded presents with Cassidy's family on Thursday night before we went to Nevada, but we forgot the camera so no pictures from then.  We went bowling on Christmas Eve and that night Cass, BJ, and my dad got to drive to Wells to pick up some stranded family on their way to Reno which was really nice of them.  So here are some pictures from Christmas day because that is the only time the camera came out.  We had a fun weekend with the family and hope that everyone else had a very merry Christmas as well.

Cass with his new toy.  Can you tell he is excited about it?

BJ with his new favorite shirt.  He is pretty excited to wear it next month when he comes to see his new nephew :)

LaWayne got BYU blue hot chocolate in her stocking.
Just chilling enjoying a nice day with family.  We were very spoiled with presents this year and are incredibly grateful for our families and their generosity.

Christmas Preparations

Every year I make Cass do a gingerbread house with me.  The last two years we haven't had gingerbread (because I don't actually know how to make it I just beg my dad and we haven't been to Elko for Thanksgiving- hence no gingerbread) so we have made do with graham crackers because I refuse to buy one of those pre made kits.  We were a little late this year getting it made because of finals and family things going on, but here is what we came up with this year.
Hard at work.  I think Cass really does enjoy this activity even if he doesn't openly admit it :)
The finished product.  I hope it makes you all think Mele Kalikimaka.

And then just because this has become my way to keep track of our family history here are some pictures of our Christmas decorations.

It can't be Christmas without a chocolate nativity.  Thanks dad for getting me the mold so that I can make my own every year.

Our tree with the lights on and off.  Look at all those presents.  Too bad none are for us.
Before Cassidy's grandma died she had knitted everyone in the family matching stockings.  Sherrie found a lady to knit similar ones for those of us who have joined the family since the stockings were made.  Here are ours.  Even baby Alden has one already I am so excited to see his name up on our wall everyday.  He is due exactly one month from today :)

We hope everyone else is getting in to the Christmas spirit, but also taking time to remember why we celebrate this special time of the year.

Party Time!

December has been a busy month already for us filled mostly with parties :)  The best part of this fact is that we got to spend lots of time with both our families including this adorable guy :)

The Norton family came from Las Vegas and Elko the first weekend in December for Randi's baby shower.  The guys went bowling while the girls hung out in South Jordan tying a quilt, eating, playing games and opening presents.

 Isn't this place cool?

I love this cute Jazz outfit!
My friend Shawna gave us this cute basket of pajamas, one outfit every month for Alden's first year.

The next weekend we went to Cassidy's family Christmas party at Classic Skate.  The kids had a good time skating and we enjoyed getting to watch everyone have fun.  We even got to see Santa on roller skates :)

Treygann didn't last long on the roller skates before he traded them in for a skooter.  Dane did well at being there help everyone find their skate legs.

Several of the cousins lined up to play red light, green light.

A full weekend

It was a busy weekend in Utah so there are a couple of things going on in this post we hope you can keep up :)  Starting things off is a picture history of Randi's baby belly.  We are at 31 weeks now so not much longer to go.

19 Weeks
23 Weeks
27 Weeks
Today at 31 weeks

Next up a baby shower.  Cassidy's brother and sister-in-law were in town this weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving a little earlier (they both have to work the day after Thanksgiving so we had dinner on Saturday with them).  Laura is also expecting their first child about 7 weeks after Randi so while they were in town Cassidy's family threw a combined baby shower.  All of the sisters and most of the cousins from Cassidy's mom's side of the family came as well as Cassidy's dad's mom.  It was a good time of just talking, lots of eating, and more presents than expected.  Here are some pictures of the shower.

Carolyn and here daughters made us each a quilt.  We also got a pack-n-play, swing, clothes, gift card, and diapers.  The family was so generous and we appreciate it all.

This picture is just because Laura hates having her picture taken and hates even more to have it shown to other people :)

Final story of the post is the Ward Turkey Shoot.  Cassidy got put in charge of an Elders quorum this last Saturday. A few of them went out east of Utah Lake and did some skeet shooting.

Over all we spent three hours shooting and went through 4 boxes of clay pigeons.

While Cassidy did not win he did tie for fourth place and got a cornish game hen. He shot an 18 out of 20 while the winner had a perfect score and got a turkey.

All in all we had a blast even with the snow storm the night before.
