Lets Get Dirty

So Saturday was a busy day at the Peterson household. The morning started off with a 10k called the Dirty Dash. The run was at Soldier Hollow where they did cross country skiing in the 2002 Winter Olympics. We ran on the ski trails with obstacles of mud spread throughout. We signed up for this race in July and had every intention of training for it, but when the big day came we had not run at all so it was a little more difficult than it should have been, but in the end I think we decided it was fun to get muddy and maybe we will do the 5k next May.

This is one of the obstacles, climbing walls in the mud. There were also hay bales you had to jump over, tires to run through, tunnels to crawl through, a swamp where the mud came half way up your shins for about half mile, and a few more that will be pictured below.


There were prizes for costumes so there were quite a few people dressed up. Along with the Viking we saw super heroes, Miss America, people dressed up as pigs, lots of people in tutus, farmers, and a couple of guys in just their tidy whities. It definitely made the run more interesting :)

And the end was this giant mud pit that you had to crawl through. The pit was definitely a good place to get dirty, but the rocks on the bottom were hard on the knees.

After the Dirty Dash it was off to the football game with the entire Norton family!


Cassidy wasn't too excited (probably tired since he hadn't slept since Friday afternoon) so Randi had to be excited enough for both :)

We were pretty high up and it was pretty hot, and the team lost, but it was fun anyway to be together with the entire family. We sure have grown this year :)

Cassidy's Second Home

Every year Cassidy's family takes a trip to Lake Powell for fun in the sun on the boat. Cass has often stated that Lake Powell is his second home because he loves going there every year. This year was no different we had an amazing four days because the weather cooperated and it was later in the season so there were a lot less people which meant calmer water and more skiing in the middle of the day. Here are some pictures from out adventure.

Cassidy's brother Dane and the one fish he caught. All those stinky anchovies in the cooler for three days and he only got one cat fish.

Treygann decided he would take grandpa for a ride in the little bay by our camp. I think grandpa did most of the rowing, but it was nice to have our own private area for swimming.

Treygann is five and was very nervous about jumping in the deep water when we first got there, but by the end of the trip he was jumping off the front and back of the boat all by himself. this picture shows exactly how he jumps, a belly flop every time, good thing he has the life vest to help break his fall.

On Saturday we drove past the "crack." When the lake is high you can swim through this crack in the cliff wall. When it is low you have to hike up the rocks then walk through it and jump off the other end. It was a fun climb until we were on our way down and Cass said of no I forgot about this part. It was this huge rock that you had to go over on your belly and then kind of drop to some other rocks that you couldn't see. I am short so Dane was holding my hand over the rock helping to lower me and Cass was directing my feet. Unfortunately I still had to drop some by myself and ended up with a huge scrape down my shin as I fell to straddle the rocks below me. The jump at the end was fun though.

There were two different Indian Ruins sights that we went to. Here we are in front of one of the homes. We are thinking of moving in because we loved Lake Powell so much :)

You might be able to tell, but we are both on the knee board. Cass is awesome and was able to stand up and then get back down without falling off.




You can't see it in the picture, but Cassidy is on the wake skate right here. The wake skate is like a skateboard with no wheels. It is really fun, but hard to get up on because you have to hold the board next to your feet with one hand and the rope with the other when you first get going. Don't worry Randi got up on it too.

This was our home for a few days. We stayed in a tent while Cassidy's parents stayed on the boat. The other picture is Cass making breakfast at the camp kitchen. During the day we put the canopy up for shade, but in the morning the sun felt good after our morning ski.

And finally Cassidy's birthday. We went down on Cassidy's birthday so here are actual pictures from his birthday. There is only half a pie because we ate the other half form breakfast before we headed to the lake. And just in case you were wondering from the previous post the pie was delicious. I am pretty proud of it considering how much stress went in to the stupid thing. The Peterson's are pie people so there was a lot of pressure :) Happy Birthday again to a fabulous husband!

Happy Birthday Cassidy!

So this post is a little early, but oh well. Cassidy turns 24 tomorrow, but since we are going to Lake Powell tomorrow we celebrated a little early so here are some pictures from the preparty and next week we will have pictures from Lake Powell on his real birthday.
Anyway Cassidy wanted a new gun for his birthday and since I am in law enforcement we found this place that gave us $100 discount so Cassidy got his gun. It is a Glock 36 for any of you who know guns. We took it out for a test drive last Saturday (hours after buying it because he couldn't wait any longer).

The very first shot and the reaction afterward. It shoots really well and is pretty small so i even like it too. Everyone got a turn with the new toy except Laura who really didn't care.

But the only person that I got a picture of was Cassidy's mom with the gun :(

Finally, Tuesday we went out to eat for his birthday and then on Wednesday I made his favorite desert, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. It was easier and harder than I thought it would be so he had to leave for work before it was done. I don't know how it tastes yet, but I think that it looks pretty good :)
Happy Birthday to a wonderful husband who deserves a week long celebration. I appreciate all you do for me!

I DID IT I DID IT!!!

For Labor Day we went out on the boat again with Cassidy's family. We were only able to wake board for a little while and then water got too rough so we pulled out the inner-tube. Here are some pictures from the day. Make sure you get all the way to the end because that is where you see the video of Randi finally making it up on the wake board. It only took three times out on the boat and next time she will figure out balancing on it so she doesn't fall down every time she goes over the wake.

A Return to Childhood

When we moved in to our apartment we discovered a park nearby with a perfect hill for ice blocking. After talking about it all summer and reminiscing how we haven't been ice blocking for years we finally went for family night this week. We had a blast and got some good exercise walking back up the hill every couple of minutes. (Warning there are a lot of pictures so if you don't want to look at us stop reading now)

And of course there were a few falls. I am so excited we got a picture mid fall.
Cass told me I couldn't post about this, but he is at work so I am going to anyway. We have been to the driving range quite a few times lately. Cassidy is teaching me how to golf and making me perfect my swing before we do a real game. These pictures were taken with my camera phone so they aren't that great, but this day I hit my first drive over 100 yards! It was a big moment in my life. Of course Cassidy was hitting 200+ yard drives consistently, but that doesn't take away from achievements, right?
